OK,
So I get a regular email newsletter from ZDNet/Cnet, a well known & reputable tech outfit. This week's newsletter talks about a program that they have that scans your pc for drivers & lists which of them may/may not need updating. It then gives you active links to the manufacturers sites to download the needed drivers. So far so good! I run the scanner, find 8 or so drivers that apparantly need updating (mind you my pc IS working just fine up to this point). So I download them (confirming that they are all from the manufacturers), and install them. Reboot & VOILA instant  and continual BSOD on every reboot. Safe mode you say?  Heck no... more BSOD's. System restore... NAH! No good AND to add to my displeasure, now I'm missing data as well!! I go back a couple system restore points... STILL missing data... but at least I can now boot into safe mode (where i'm at now, desperately backing what's left, to my external HD). Data recovery program to find the missing data you suggest? Well partially successful, but my email apparantly is TOTALLY lost back to 2004.

Tto add insult to injury, one of our 2 dvd players died a horrible death, AND I scratched the screen on our brand new LCD TV (which of course isn't covered under the warranty), ALL TODAY!

This is NOT my idea of an enjoyable Saturday.

I've been meaning to post on this for some time, but this morning's version of "event #1 (see below) was especially cute:

1 ) Everytime I go outside to the car, making sure that he can see me from the living room window so that we can have silent waves & funny face exchanges through the window.

2) Stepping out of the shower to find multiple smiley faces drawn in the fog on the medicine cabinet mirror.

3) My coming home, and as I walk in the door, have an entire greeting conversation that consists only of our nick names for each other (Him: BIG GUY!, ME: Little Guy!, BIG guy... Little guy, etc), ending in a huge hug!

4) Knowing that his "linebacker hug" which he has been working on ever since he could run, is THIS CLOSE to actually knocking me over at this point, because he tries so hard to achieve it.

5) Swimming in the pool, yelling & waving at each other underwater, and then coming up laughing hysterically.

This collection of cuteness, brought to you by the (little guy) letter "j" :-)

December 12th, 2002... Exhausted, run through the emotional wringer, not knowing if we had made the right decision after 4 days of crying (him) , cajoling (us!), and trying to please a very sad little boy who had grown so very attached to his foster family over the previous 5 months, we were flying home. That being said, this was the second happiest day of my life (second only to marrying "that woman" to the right of me in the picture  ;-) .

Flying home from Guatemala, December 12th, 2002

Over the past few years I've talked about how stressful our trip to Guatemala was.  If I had to do it over I wouldn't change a thing... well ok one thing, the bathroom "battle royale of poop" at the Houston Airport ;-).
Looking back on the past 6 years, it has just amazed me, how much we fell in love with him from the first picture that we were given, through all of our experiences we have had with him so far.
So, every year for the past six years on this date, we have our own small celebration of our Family/Gotcha Day, the day we brought him home and became a family. Every year it brings me back to the day in this picture, flying home with this beautiful child that has made our lives so much richer (and busier), and happier.

This "Happy Daddy" moment, brought to you by Auerbach Family Day #6, December 12th, 2008

I don't rememeber if I posted this last year, but this has to be one of the most amazing acapella versions of 12 Days of Christmas that I've ever heard. It done by a group called Straight No Chaser, and even if you don't celebrate Christmas, do yourself a favour, if you enjoy acapella take a listen it is superb! Here's the Youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Fe11OlMiz8

Enjoy!

No luck with finding another internet cafe that allows uploading, so no pictures this time, unfortunately.
After Antigua, we sailed to St Lucia, with beautiful Palm trees, and local shopping... mostly walking around taking in the sites. Last night was one of the famed "Midnight Buffet's".... OH MY GOD... there can't be this much good food!!!  The setup was amazing as well... our pictures won't do it justice.
Today we spent the day walking through Barbados, with more picture taking, and an impromptu lunch, with a couple from Vancouver, who were vacationing on the island. They happened to be looking for a table at the restaurant we had stopped at for lunch. It was such a beautiful day, and we were already enjoying the outdoor seating right at a marina, that we invited them over to share the table. Great conversation & food ensued.
Then back to ship for some quick munchies & drinks..... tomorrow we have the entire day at sea & return (sadly) to San Juan, on Saturday morning. What a wonderful week so far!!
Hope that all is well with everyone! talk with you all when we get back!

winnie the Pooh with the Pirate
We brought along our son's Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal to take pictures with it, where ever we go, tolet him know that we were thinking of him during our trip, and this was a great picture of the "pirate" just getting off ship in St. Thomas!
our ship, in St. Maarten
Just a few for now.... more to come later if we get the chance!!
take care
Jeff

Hello Everyone!
No luck with uploading any pictures (not allowed, unfortunately). But we are here at an Internet cafe in St Thomas having drinks after touring around the shops during the day. We are headed to St Maarten tomorrow! We may hit the internet on board in a day or two, but not likely for very long. Hope that all is well up north & we'll see you in a week!
Have a great one all!
-Jeff

At this time tomorrow we will be in the air, headed down to the  Caribbean for our 10 Year Anniversary Cruise!!! We can barely contain ourselves. Jonathan is heading off to his Grand parents in Maryland for the week today, and we pack like mad tonight!
VERY limited internet access down there, but there is an internet cafe on board ship, so be on the lookout for the occasional picture or two during the week!
See you next weekend!

Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

OK, yes, I am  a Dr Who geek, and no, life will not end, with the changing of the guard, yet again BUT...the Doctor character is going to run out of regenerations pretty quickly if they keep this up!

One more year of "specials" and that's it!
:-(

I'm not very often the verbal romantic, but she is my life, my love, and I don't know where I'd be without her.
We may not have the most exciting & active life as compared to others, but I wouldn't have it any other way, as long as she is a part of it.
Here's to our first ten years, and hoping for many more to come.
I Love You with all my heart.

Jonathan and his "brainy specs"  (extra credit for knowing where the reference is from ;-)

Nothing seriously wrong with his eyes, just a minor correction (20/30 in his right eye and mild astigmatism) to help with reading only.
Considering the devilish grin that he has... the halo was purely accidental  heh!

So, The wife goes out to dinner with her friend Margaret (AKA "Auntie Margaret" to our son, this will become important later) for a "girls night out". I know what restaurant where they are at, and that they are in the outdoor , wooden fenced in area for this restaurant (also it is to important to note, that they can't see out to the parking lot from this area). Well, So our son & I go out for "boys night out" as well at Friendly's (MUCH cooler, as per J ;-)  and on the way home i tell him that i have a great idea.... let's surprise Mommie & Auntie, by stopping by the Restaurant to say hello.... BUT not really!

So, here's the scenario..... we drive into the parking lot for the restaurant, pull up right by the fenced in, outdoor area of the place.... open our windows, and YELL AT THE TOP OF OUR LUNGS " HI MOMMIE & AUNTIE MARGARET!!!"  (eliciting "What the Hell?" looks from everyone in the parking lot) and then we take off laughing hysterically!!!
Not one minute later, my cell phone rings (we aren't quite home yet, and still in the car), "Jeff?..... Did you just come by the restaurant & yell hello & disappear?"  J is STILL laughing hysterically (hey he's 6!) in the back of the car, and I can barely stop giggling while trying to answer....

So, I suppose, if you have  the choice of "drive-bys (shooting, or shouting).... this was the MUCH better choice......  :-)

Definitely a "you had to be there" kinda thing, but it was VERY funny.....

AAAaaaannnddd We're back...... Oh wait that's the end..... *fade to black*

Tittle appears on screen:
Deb's 50th Birthday present from me, a weekend in Ogunquit, ME... ALONE! ( no computers, electronics, barely a cell phone signal, and NO CHILDREN ALLOWED!)
*fades*

*72 HOURS EARLIER*

+ J gets dropped off with Deb's sister on Thursday evening, for a camping gettaway at their trailer/campground in the Lakes Region, NH

*fade to black*
- (Work through Friday)

Friday evening:
+Friday evening starts off with a light dinner at Not Your Average Joe's in Watertown, to avoid rush hour traffic & then a quick drive up to Ogonquit
+Check into the hotel & then down to the center of town (blink and you'll miss it)  to have desert under the stars.
+wonderful walk around town, then back to the hotel

Saturday
+Waking up at the crack of NINE (considering our "late" morning with J is somewhere around 7, this is LUXURIOUS! )
+GLORIOUS weather
+ Ommelette Factory for breakfast OH MY GOODNESS, OMMELETTE HEAVEN! :-)
- waiting an hour for a local trolly that is wheelchair accessible and then 15 minutes while clueless driver tries miserably to figure out the chair restraints.
+Liesurely walking around Perkins Cove, Ice cream here... bit of shopping there.
+ Walking the entire Marginal Way (not possible in prior years due to stairs which have been re-designed out), stopping here & there for view breaks of the ocean, picture taking & rock climbing.
+ Continuing to walk into town & then back to the hotel (probably a total walk of approx 2 miles)
+ Showers & out to dinner at Oarweed: LOBSTAH! YUM!
+ Drive up Rt 1 for some minor supplies
++ Stopping down at Ogunquit Beach, 10:30 at night, for a romantic & nostalgic "moment": Empty beach, sitting together on a granite block gazing out into the dark night, barely able to see the waves rolling up on the beach. Very much like a night (minus heavy mist/fog), we spent together FIFTEEN YEARS ago.  Talking low, snuggling close, but now instead of talking about what could be, we are reminiscing about things we have done, and what is to come :-)
+ back to the hotel

Sunday
+Waking up at the crack of NINE AGAIN for another GLORIOUS day!
+ fine breakfast at the hotel and we check out
+Stonewall Kitchen for all sorts of yummy samples to taste (SPICED RUM BUTTERSCOTCH SAUCE IS TO DIE FOR!)  & foodstuffs to take home (including the aforementioned sauce, amongst other things)
+ Kittery outlet shopping: Little things bought here & there but always a good browsing experience otherwise
- Not finding a particular restaurant, that I mix up the directions for every year (this year being no exception)
- Heading home (mostly at least, stop in Burlington for dinner)
+ Dinner at the Cheescake Factory; Burlington to cap off a wonderful weekend
+ Meet with Deb's sister  at the Mall as they arrive back home, and our son, (after having a wonder ful weekend of his own)  quite litterally BOUNCES happily into our arms!
+ Homeward bound
- unpacking & laundry

This truly was a wonderful weekend. No rushing, no stress, little worries, and wonderful weather. Happy (late) Birthday Deb!
-Me :-)

liquidj: (Default)
 Friday evening:
+ miss_sugarme coming in for a weekend visit :-)
-/+ Dress rehearsal for the big show, long, a bit worrisome (they always are), and tiring
+ Still cool, and hoping/praying that it would stay cool

Saturday:
+ J's t-ball game first thing Saturday morning
- 80 degrees and HUMID during J's t-ball game, at 10 am!! Blech!
+Cool AC at home & major relax time before the show.
-getting to the Church location for the show, worst fears confirmed, it's actually HOTTER inside, than out (which was a BALMY 92 degrees)
+warmups feel surprisingly good, the guest groups sound great!
-Just in case it wasn't hot enough in the church, why not add stage lights!! (I'm MELTING.... Melting... oh my beautiful world.....)
- FOUR full bottles of water to stay hydrated, in the time span of a show, where I'd regularly only drink 1 MAYBE 2 in a pinch.
++regardless of the heat, all three groups had a great time, and a fun show was had by all :-D
+++COLLAPSE!

Sunday:
-oh crap! it's 82 degrees at EIGHT AM!
+ J's swim lesson :-) amazing that a year ago he was still floundering with arm floaties, now he's swimming most of the way across  (what I believe to be ) an olympic sized pool at the YMCA, just fine.
+ Home relaxing in the AC
+ More swimming in our apartment building's pool for J
+ Dinner out (cuz who wants to cook?)
- 3 week old linksys wireless router craps out for no reason.... (can see the "home" pc's hard drive, but can't get out to the internet, while the "home" pc get's out just fine), 3 hours later , including 1 hour on the phone with linksys (india, thanks Rohin) , return the router this week.
+ glad that i still have the older, weaker (the reason for the replacement in the first place) Belkin wireless router, and back online goes the remote pc.
- Have i mentioned that I HATE the laundry machines in my apartment building?
+ BED

Great show, not bad weekend, but too damn hot!!
Hope everyone stayed as cool as possible!
liquidj: (Default)
So we get back home from being out & about today.... & we all end up in our bedroom talking.... Deb sitting in her chair, J kinda walking around, and me, laying down on my bed...The next thing I know, it's 45 mins later, the light is out & the door closed....and carefully draped across me from HIS room, is my son's Transformer blanket , and apparantly somehow, he had managed to get his pillow from HIS bed, under my head, all without waking me up! How cute is that? I love that he can be such a decent & caring kid like that.
